OSHA Makes Decision to Renew Alliance Program

The oil and gas industry, while extremely lucrative, is one of the most dangerous and hazardous industries to work in. By the very nature of the work, employees are exposed to dangerous chemicals and work around equipment under immense pressure. The Corpus Christi oil and gas accident attorneys at the Sahadi Legal Group see oil and gas accidents all too often. However, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has established all workers are entitled to a reasonably safe workplace. OSHA has established and enforces strict guidelines for the oil and gas industry to protect workers, but employers don’t always adhere to these rules, putting workers at risk. In an effort to further advance workplace safety, OSHA has renewed a partnership with the Association of Energy Service Companies (AESC) to better protect oil and gas workers from on-the-job injuries.

OSHA and the AESC will work together during their three-year alliance to reduce the number of accidents and injuries in the oil fields and oil processing facilities. Together, the agencies will provide training resources for member companies and employees. The program helps create relationships with groups such as trade organizations, unions, faith and community-based organizations, and other institutions to provide training and resources designed to prevent accidents and injuries.

Safety First

Although OSHA and the AESC work hard to help keep oil and gas workers safe, oil and gas employers play the largest role in worker safety. Employers are required by law to provide all safety training and equipment necessary for workers, but safety goes beyond hard hats and training sessions. Safety is a mindset and employers should be regularly empowering workers to put safety first. Unfortunately, many employers cut corners to try to save on their bottom line, and by doing so put their employees at risk. Employers cannot sacrifice worker safety in order to achieve higher profits. Oil and gas workers injured on the job can seek justice by filing a lawsuit. By partnering with an experienced workplace injury lawyer, oil and gas workers can pursue compensation for their injuries, pain and suffering, and lost wages, among other damages.
